![]() ![]() Our goal is to give ample support for our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. With that being said, our management style at Yelp is very hands-on, and to some this may feel like micro-management. We want to make sure that everyone who comes onboard has a solid understanding of the highs and lows a career in sales can bring. During our interview process, we go to great lengths to set expectations about what can be expected in the role and what the day-to-day looks like for an Account Executive. We understand that the Account Executive role can be challenging. We appreciate your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that your experience on our team was anything less than you had hoped for. We appreciate your help with those efforts! We strive to create a consistent and positive leadership experience across the board. After candidates show they can coach and operate according to our standards, they can apply to be a manager. Candidates who successfully pass MDP then need to earn a spot in our Coaching Development Program (CDP). The Manager Development Program (MDP) is a classroom-based curriculum designed to teach the fundamentals of the manager role. In addition, folks interested in leadership must go through two different programs before being selected to become people leaders. We have AEs that have recently graduated college, folks early on in their careers with 1-2 years experience, and seasoned sales veterans that find that the position offers a good mix of challenges, rewards, and opportunities for growth. We appreciate your feedback! One of the best things about the Account Executive role is that it offers an opportunity for success to people of many backgrounds and experiences. While we understand it can be challenging to be held accountable to specific metrics on a daily basis, we know that this is the best way one can be - more. Sometimes that can look like various one-on-one conversations throughout the day and setting sales quotas that encourage people to continually improve. ![]() With that being said, our goal is to give ample support for our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. We're proud of the fact that our product works for local businesses - it's a matter of our folks staying persistent to educate those business owners on how they can make the most of their Yelp page. They do that by providing value for the business owners they speak with. As such, it's expected that their initial reaction to any sales call will be 'no.' However, if sales people stopped after the first no every time, they would never make a sale! We coach our folks to remain persistent, without being pushy. As you can imagine, business owners are getting tens of calls per day from many sales people all trying to sell them something different - a new POS system, advertising, better wifi, the list goes on. Sales is definitely challenging, mainly due to the large amount of rejection that's expected anywhere you do it. First and foremost, we have a zero-tolerance policy for unethical behavior, and our playbook has always instructed our folks to communicate our product clearly and accurately. We are sorry to hear that your experience on our team was anything less than what you had hoped for.
